Life’s Not Ruff
By Indigo (age 9)
Albany School of Humanities

Man’s best friend.
Bringing back the stick
That you asked the dog
To fetch.

So loyal and trusting.
Loving and caring.
Very forgiving.
Knowing you’ll
Always
Love it.

LADYBUGS
By Myaisha (age 5)

Ladybugs are insects.  They have 6 legs.  Ladybugs have 3 body parts.  A ladybug's wings are symmetrical.  Ladybugs fly with their inner wings.  Ladybugs eat aphids.  Some ladybugs are red and black, but not all.  Ladybugs protect themselves by flipping over and squirting stuff.  Ladybugs have a life cycle: egg, grub, pupa, then ladybug.  Some ladybugs live in trees.  Ladybugs love to eat aphids.

Sources:

The Ladybug and Other Insects (A First Discovery Book) by Pascale de Bourgoing, Gallimard Jeunesse, and Sylvie Perols (Hardcover - Oct 1991)

A Ladybug's Life (Nature Upclose) by John Himmelman (Paperback - Aug 1998)

*Along with these sources, Myaisha used prior knowledge and was able to observe live ladybugs in her classroom.
