YOUTH ART SHOW IN ARBOR HILL

“Summer In The City Exhibition” Opens October 8th

ALBANY, N.Y. – The 7th Annual “Summer In The City Youth Talent Exhibition” will open on Saturday, October 8th, 2011 at “Stage 1,” a storefront community art space located at 46-48 North Swan Street. A public reception will be held from 5:00pm - 8:00pm.  Child-friendly refreshments will be available and admission is free. The exhibition is be part of the first-ever “MoHu Regional Arts Week,” occurring throughout the Capital District from October 7th to October 14th.

The “Summer In The City Youth Talent Exhibition” annually celebrates the accomplishments of young people in Arbor Hill and other downtown neighborhoods, showcasing performing arts, multimedia, poetry, cultural knowledge projects, and more created in programs during the preceding summer (and year).  Groups participating in this year’s exhibition include: Albany Public Library, Art Partners-Tsehaya & Company, Black Dimensions In Art, Equinox Inc., Grand Street Community Arts, Green Tech Charter High School, Ten Broeck Mansion Summer Archaeology Camp, and Trinity Alliance.

“Summer In The City” is produced by local creative arts organization, Albany Barn, Inc. Albany Barn has partnered with the Albany Housing Authority to redevelop the former St. Joseph's Academy, an abandoned school in the heart of Albany's imperiled Arbor Hill neighborhood, into a sustainable creative arts incubator and community art center called The Barn/Academy Lofts.  Albany Barn also produces and collaborates on local creative arts events and programs. Albany Barn opened Stage 1, located one block from the St. Joseph’s Academy building, in 2010.

“Summer In The City” is made possible this year by Stewart’s Shops, with additional support from Clement Frame Shop & Art Gallery, Honest Weight Food Co-op, and Subway on Henry Johnson Boulevard.

The exhibition will remain on view throughout the month of October.

Books inspire writers.

Welcome to ...Writer's Blog.

A weekly blog just for you...the young writer.

Read Books you love!

One of the best ways to fuel the brain of a writer is to read. Read books you love. This helps your mind explore new places and allows you to learn from other writers. Check out what they do that works and makes you believe in their stories and think of ways you might do the same. I am inspired when I read the stories of some of my favorite authors because they sound just like me. They loved reading, or stories or funny poems and they allowed their imaginations to fly free and create their own.

Visit some of these author pages and learn about their journeys. We'd love to hear from you about yours!
