Emily, Age 9
West Sand Lake Elementary
Once there was a little girl named Layla. Her friends and family call her Layla. On one sunny morning, Layla felt strange when she came down the stairs to eat something. But, before she started to head downstairs, she heard yelling from her parents. Aron came out of his room and listened with her.
After hearing footsteps, their parents stopped the argument.
“Kids, come out and eat!” said their dad.
“Okay, Dad,” they said anxiously.
“Why were you yelling?” asked Layla to her father.
“Oh, you heard that?” asked her dad.
They nodded.
“Well, we were trying to figure out where to go when we move,” said her mom.
Her mom flipped a pancake. Layla was very surprised by that reaction.
“What?!” she asked nervously.
She ran upstairs to her room and cried in her pillow. Then, Aron knocked on the door.
“Knock, knock,” he said. “Come out of your room.”
“Go away!” Layla yelled.
“Not until you say ‘who’s there?’”
“Okay, who’s there?”
“Banana.”
“Banana who?”
“Knock, knock.”
“Who’s their?”
“Orange.”
“Orange who?” “Orange you glad that I did not say banana?” They both laughed and then sighed in sadness. They got ready for school. But, as they were leaving, so did their dog, Bella. Layla ran after her until she ran into the woods. Bella stopped. She came back scared, so Layla made friends with her in the forest. But, they were stuck in the forest until they arrived home. To her family’s surprise, she came in to the house and they agreed to never let Bella leave the house.
